THE CONTENTS OF THIS BOX ARE FRAGILE

This 3D Animation was made as part of a character animation class. We studied object interactions and shifting emotions most predominantly for this project.

I begin with a synopsis paragraph of what I want to happen in the animation, as well as a pseudo-storyboard of thumbnail sketches to plan out the major actions and poses that the character will perform.

Once that's done, reference footage is filmed! I usually act and film the scenario myself, using props I have around to create realistic motion I can then use while animating the scene. This particular scene took over 20 takes to get good reference footage for, as each time I would slightly change the timing of the actions as well as the minute positioning of my arms, legs, and props.

Once satisfied with the reference footage, I import it into After Effects. Here I can manually adjust the timing in certain intervals to make certain actions appear faster or slower, or to create pauses where there previously were none. I then render the film out as an image sequence and import it into Maya.

FINAL VIDEO

After completing the blocking and breakdown passes, I do a final polish pass where I clean up any jittering, finalize timing, and use the graph editor to more finely tune the movements and speeds of the character. This is what you end up with!
